      1. There’s no excuses for terrible makeup. I just said that even if make-up looks ‘terrible’ it doesn’t make it not gyaru, that’s my point. Some of the gyaru there are from egg but if someone did make-up like them, they’d be deemed not gyaru. You’re not reading it properly.

      1. I agree that for some styles, the aim is to look good but that’s not the only aim. During the gyaru boom, there were tons of gyaru on the streets of Shibuya with not so pretty make-up. The make-up wasn’t lazy or half-assed, but some of it looked terrible. The magazines had gyaru with not-so-pretty make-up too. It doesn’t make it ‘not gyaru’ though.

        I’m not trying to excuse people who don’t look gyaru at all, but people who do but just have nasty make-up shouldn’t be excluded from the comm.

    4. I really agree with you. Of course shitty makeup, from Japan or not, can and should be improved, but being shitty doesn’t mean it’s not gal. I actually think they on the pic may look shit, but still look more gyaru than 75% of the himekaji gals.

    5. The people calling this makeup (above) trash, ugly and ‘not gyaru’ are probably all hime or romakajis who’ve never come close to an eyeliner, lenses and a good pair of thick diamond lashes.

      Gyaru started as a rebellion. Do you think that the storm on the bastille has been all flowery, full of angels and little elves and that no one got killed and there wasn’t any blood or disgusting smells? Rebellions and Revolutions always start with a ‘dirty’ truth and are later glorified to an extend that people will forget the origins of what they’re glorifying.

Nothing against himekaji/roma personally, but they tend to think gyaru=”kawaiiiiii” what obviously is no true at all. “Shitty” makeup may be bad, but gyaru is more than that, and fucking more than being cute. Those gals need to leave their lovingly internet life and go live a gyaru life. Ah, that don’t exist outside Japan, blablablah? Wtf, even so they can have some attitude rather than “looking a perfectly cute ‘gyaru’ ” only to take selfies and post them somewhere.

          It’s important to know your roots. No one says you have to like them, but you should respect them.

          Also aside from top right and the photo in the middle those makeup close up look not only decent, but pretty good and far from nasty or dirty

          1. OP here, I’m glad you guys understand what I mean. It’s this mentality what’s destroyed the comm over the past couple years. Not everyone has to get along, but we slate each-other for the one thing we have in common all too often.

            I tried to include that girl in the middle to say that even Himekaji/kei gyaru can have ‘bad’ make-up. It was hard to find someone like her because too many of these Hime style gyaru had the sort of make-up that people glorify. I even managed to find a basic but still old Tsubasa photo.

            I’m into the more extreme but sexy kuro-gyaru and really admire the late ganguro era like that girl second to the top but find it amusing that you can’t see her eyes because its all to black XD Circle lenses were a much needed addition to the comm imo.

    7. Hah I lol’ed at some replies. What some gals need to understand is that some makeups may not be good but look gyaru, the same way as a makeup may look great but not gyaru at all. Wasn’t it exactly the complain about Xin? “Her makeup is good but not gyaru”. See? These on the pic are the opposite case: “their makeup is bad but look gyaru.” Duh, is that hard to understand?
